The French love Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël. They are authentic and colourful towns and much cheaper when it comes to beaches than St Tropez or Monaco.

Fréjus-plage
Let’s start this article about the most famous beach in Fréjus: Fréjus-plage.
This is the main beach in Fréjus and it’s a kilometre long.
It’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing and doing some water activities.
The beach is split with both public and private parts so you can find the perfect spot for you.
It’s very close to the town centre which is very handy if you want to head into town for lunch, a drink or do some sightseeing.
The views over the port of Saint-Raphaël are stunning and it’s a great spot to watch the sunset.
In terms of facilities, there are showers and toilets available which is particularly practical, especially for families.
While you can always bring a picnic, there are also a few restaurants and bars nearby so you can enjoy a bite to eat or a refreshing drink.
Beach restaurants such as La Plage or Cuba Plage are excellent options.
There are lifeguards in summer as well so if you are visiting with kids, you can be reassured.
In terms of parking, there are a few spots near the beach but you will need to pay. It would be cheaper to park a bit further and walk down to the beach.
PRO TIP: The plage de Fréjus is the most popular and busiest beach in town so it’s highly recommended not to take jewellery or valuables here.
PRO TIP 2: There isn’t much shade here (if at all) so if you can take an umbrella with you, it will come in handy as well.
Plage de Saint-Aygulf
If you’re looking for a more exotic beach experience, head to Plage de Saint-Aygulf.
This beach is located in the south of Fréjus and it’s known for its beautiful palm trees as well as its proximity to the stunning ponds of Villepey.
You’ll get to see the beautiful arches made by the sand and water. It’s a very unique place!
It really does look like you’ve been transported to the Caribbean with its thin sand and crystal clear waters.
It is a rather large beach since it’s 800 metres long and is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing and taking some amazing photos.
It’s also particularly well known for being one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in Fréjus.
The sunset here is stunning and it’s definitely worth staying until the end of the day to enjoy it.
In terms of facilities, there are toilets and showers available as well as lifeguards in the summertime.
It’s pretty easy to park near this beach however you’ll have to pay for it.
There is a small part of the beach that is dog-friendly so if you are travelling with your furry friend, this is an option but there are better places for dogs. You’ll find them further below.
Plage de Port Fréjus
If you’re looking for a calmer beach experience, Plage de Port Fréjus is the perfect spot.
This beach is located in the South West side of Port Fréjus and it’s great for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the views.
You can easily access it from the Boulevard de la Mer.
In terms of parking, you can leave your car at the Base Nature François Léotard.
It’s also popular for fishing so if that’s something you are interested in, check it out!
In terms of amenities, you’ll find toilets, showers and a lifeguard station in summer.

Plage de la Base Nature
This beach is a bit different from the others as it’s located in a nature reserve.
The Base Nature François Léotard is perfect for swimming, sunbathing and playing beach games.
It also has a playground and a bar/restaurant so you can easily spend a day here.
Please note that this beach is also equipped with disabled access which is great!
You will also find toilets and showers here.
There is a carpark as well but you’ll need to pay for that.
Plage des Esclamandes
This is one of the most interesting beaches in Fréjus since it’s split into 4 areas:
- A swimming / family friendly beach
- A dog-friendly beach
- A nudist beach
- A beach dedicated to watersport, kitesurfind mainly
Obviously, you will need to make sure you are going to the part that suits you since it wouldn’t be too comfortable otherwise.
Rather than that, it is a great place to check out and there is loads of space.
Altotgether, the beach is 800 metres long. The sand is thin and the water beautifully blue! You will definitely love this beach especially since it’s close to town while still giving you the feeling it’s very secluded.
In terms of amenities, you’ll find showers and toilets here as well.
You will find a large carpark (paying) near the swimming part of the beach. It’s recommended to get there before noon though since it can get a bit busy after that.
PRO TIP: It’s also recommended to bring an umbrella. There isn’t much shade here so having an umbrella will come in handy. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen!
Plage du Capitole
Though this one is not exactly the most beautiful beach in Fréjus, it’s definitely worth mentioning because the location is ideal.
It’s situated between the town centre and the Port Fréjus which means you can get there on foot.
It’s also equipped with disabled access.
Finally, you’ll find a few food beach shacks here where you can get food.
Make sure to take an umbrella since there is no shade here.
Plage des Sablettes
The plage des Sablettes is one of the most popular beaches in Fréjus and for good reason, it’s beautiful!
It’s located between Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël and is very easily accessible from both towns.
This is a great place to go if you are planning to visit the towns. You can have a nice break.
If you are visiting in summer though, it might be quite busy especially since it’s a wide beach and can fit a lot of people.
In terms of amenities, you will find toilets, showers and snack shacks here. You can also rent an umbrella and chair but it’s not that cheap.
In terms of carpark, there are a few paying spots around but it’s not easy to park to be honest so I’d recommend walking there.
There are also lifeguards in summer, making it very secure for families.
Finally, it’s important to note that dogs are not allowed on this beach.
Plage de l’Argens
If you are looking for a dog-friendly beach in Fréjus, this one will be perfect for you!
It’s located in Saint-Aygulf and is very close to the ponds of Villepey.
The beach is pretty large and has thin sand which is very pleasant.
Here your furry friend will be able to have fun on the sand and in the water. It has to be kept on a leash though.
Also, if you fancy doing a bit of sightseeing, you can easily walk to the ponds and enjoy the views.
Grand Boucharel
Located a bit further south, the plage du Grand Boucharel is an excellent option for families looking for a quiet beach near Fréjus.
There is a large swimming area as well as showers and toilets nearby.
The water is crystal clear so if you were looking for a place to go snorkelling in Fréjus, it will be perfect!
Also, there are some coastal walking paths around so it’s a good spot to go and explore.
Calanque du Pont de Bois
If you are looking for a bit of a hidden gem near Fréjus, this cute cove in Saint-Aygulf will be perfect for you!
It’s pretty close to the plage de Saint-Aygulf but not as well known so it tends to be a bit quieter.
Also, although the beach is mainly made of sand, there are a lot of rocks so it’s perfect for people who want to see something a bit different.
In terms of parking, you’ll find a small paying carpark nearby. Alternatively, you’ll also find free on-street parking.
PRO TIP: Get some waterproof shoes like these before you go there so you can walk safely on the rocks.
